Guilty Pleasure of the Week: Truffle Pigs

Owner Shelley Wallace and I.

At long last fellow foodies and chocolate conossieurs, Hagensborg Chocolates has opened its doors. Fortunately, owner Shelley Wallace chose a Burnaby location so I’m never to0 far from her delectable chocolate creations. The storefront, while not in a high-traffic area, is as bright and welcoming as she is, and as for the famous Truffle Pigs? Creamy, rich, impossible to put down, smooth…you get the idea!

Using nothing but the best, Shelley (also fittingly known as the reigning princess of chocolate) imports top quality chocolate from Europe to create the wide range of chocolates available at her store. Within a day of purchasing $20 worth of product (which cost me a mere $10 thanks to the fantastic deal on Groupon Now!) I have already managed to inhale three bars: milk chocolate, dark hazlenut, and the dark mint. While all three will put you on cloud nine, my personal favourite is the dark chocolate hazlenut. This bar is nutty, slightly salty, and, by using hazlenut butter, the creamy texture of the regular dark chocolate Truffle Pig bar is retained.

Because this is my guilty pleasure of the week, I opted for the whole bar, but if you want to curb your indulgence slightly, try the Truffle Pig’lets. The bonus going this route is the caramel chocolate, which only comes in the snack size.

Another option is the gift of a guilty pleasure; Shelley has stocked the shop’s shelves full of packaged chocolates that will work perfectly as a stocking stuffer this Christmas.

Direct from the owner, I can also let you know that there will be a smores station in the coming weeks, once they’ve settled into their brand-new store. As I am sure this will be highly popular for the holiday season, I will keep you updated as to the exact date this will commence!

As always, wishing you a stamp of culinary royalty in all of your dining (and snacking) endeavours – happy indulging! xx
