I may not have been here long, but I have already discovered that Ventura Boulevard in Studio City and Sherman Oaks, CA is the place to go if you want a great bite to eat.
From mediterranean tapas bars and funky diners to authentic Italian restaurants, there is something for everyone. The latter was my choice last night, and I am incredibly happy it was. Il Tiramisu is an elegant Italian spot on this bustling SoCal street offering a concise, yet varied menu. The service from the get-go is warm and professional; I never felt rushed and my water glass never went below the halfway point (one of my tests for great service).
Onto the food!
The flatbread and garlic infused olive oil was a delicious (free) way to warm up my stomach for what was to come. I loved that the caprese salad didn’t skimp on the mozzarella, and the artichoke cakes were out of this world – such a unique dish – rich, creamy, and full of flavour, with goat’s cheese and a red pepper sauce underneath. I don’t know how they put these together, but once you try these you’ll understand why I want the recipe so badly. Rounding out my savoury selections was the basil pesto fettuccine with artichoke hearts and roasted tomato. Aside from a craving for a little crunch, this pasta was truly one not to be missed. I was incredibly full, but with a tiramisu that has changed people’s opinions on the dessert, I just couldn’t say no. Generally, I find tiramisu has an overwhelming coffee flavour and lacks texture. Il Tiramisu’s house specialty sits in a paper thin chocolate cup that offers the perfect contrast in texture that also complements the coffee flavour. Fresh strawberries on top round it out – a dessert created for a queen!
So have you been? Let me know what you think, what you tried, and I’ll be sure to test it out on my next visit. Also, I would love it if you could let them know the Cuisine Queen referred you. And, of course, if you have any suggestions or tips please do let me know! xx
